Architecture and urban planning has been playing an important role in human civilization. Thus, in this modern city era, various architectural theories and urban philosophy has been the fundamental thinking for designer to redefine their design direction and even their design justification. By study the past as the reference, valueable thinkings push modern design foward.

In this module, different architectural theories were offered in order to demostrate the understanding of the relationship between theory and architecture nowadays. Therefore, a theorist was selected in order to conduct an in depth study of his or her principles and reflects the understanding by analyzing a modern urban context. With this, Camillo Sitte and his theory, "City Planning According to Artistic Principle" were selected as the main study area, which the theory was further disucssed in the context of Marina Bay, Singapore. From these series of study and analysis, it is interesting and eye-open to see that particular principles have been translated or transformed in a way to suit our modern city planning. Also, it is important to build up our critical perspective towards the justification that have made by theorist or designer.
