Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.
PROJECT 2
ME IN SPACE

In project 2, I experienced the fun of creating a space with combining our self-narrative and considering the anthropometry. Meanwhile, throughout the project, my teammates and I did some research about how does body inform space and how funtions follow form by measuring human body scale & proportion and keep developing our design untill every details were considered and resonable. Furthermore, we also learnt about basic design principles through the design process of the pavilion and understand how human body interact and engage with a space. In the 1:1 installation making process, I learnt the technique of solving problem and also how to coorperate with my teammates, and of course, the model making process was exciting and enjoyable.

As a conclusion, I really learnt a lot from this project and I will pay attention on the workmanship of the model next time.

PROJECT 1
SELF-EXPRESSION THROUGH OBJECT

The very first project in the beginning of my architecture study is express MYSELF through the object. In this project, I learnt how generate the ideas and abstract a theme of MYSELF as well as translate or transform it into representational art piece. At the same time, this project also provided me a good opportunity to explore various media and thinking process to represent myself, and I also realised that architecture is all about self-expression and conceptual narratives. Meanwhile, I gained a lot of experiences from the project presentation and become more courageous to speak in the public. In a nut shell, I think I still have to think more creatively to improve my work.

ARCHITECTURE DESIGN STUDIO 1

Before mid-term semester break, we visited Kuala Lumpur Performing Art Centre (KLPAC) to explore and discover the influences of materiality in architecture to human 5 senses. In the trip, I discovered different raw materials were used to construct the whole building of KLPAC and the intention of the architect in using these raw materials, which is to conserve the original aesthetic and beauty of train station as well as creating a sense of nostalgia.

On the other day, I also visited The Foster+Partner Exhibition which was hold in Petronas Galleri, KLCC. In the exhibition, the breath-taking and fantastic models surprised and inspired me. Also, I understand how does an architect works with a design team and the whole design process from an idea to a real building. Nevertheless, the exhibition encouraged me to think diffrent and teach me to become fearless with the failures. It was a priceless experience that the exhibition gives me.

FINAL PROJECT
MY CITY DREAMSPACE

SITE- MODEL MAKING &

CHARACTER CREATION

In the final project, we started from chosing a movie as our hideout city background. In my group, we selected the movie, The Tron: Legacy to further develope our character and the narrative. By site model making, I clearly understand that the city development situations and the conditions. At the same time, I also tried to generate and create a character which will be my 'client' of the hideoutspace. I really enjoyed the part creating character as it was a different thinking experience I had never tried before.

SPACE ORGANIZATION EXERCISE

In this part, I gained the knowledge about how the design principles related to the spatial organizations. In addition, I also understand that the organization of spaces is the vital part of creating the atmosphere and circulation within the space, which  also influence the user experience.

THE DESIGN PROCESS

After a series of spatial organization exercise, I tried to develop the hideout from choosing some workable organization to do the further development. By considering the character and narrative, and also the specific activities in specific space, I used clustered organization to generate the space order within the hideout space. From the design process, I found it was hard to design a space which have to include all the key ideas, which were introduced throughout the semester. Meanwhile, the most difficult part for me in the design process was I didn't break the form of the hideout properly. This was a pity to me and I hope I can improve in the next semester.

FINAL DESIGN & PRESENTATION

In the process of developing ideas and design, I learnt how to differentiate the role of scale and proportion in the relationships between human body and designed environment. At the same time, I also gained the knowledge about how to use materials to enhance human sensory experience of the space. In the presentation board making process, I realised that the important of time management of a project and I also apply what I learnt in design communication well in the illustration of my design. Last but not least, the presentation was smooth and success.
