The ingredients and the elements to let you feel the spatial sensations.

PROJECT 1b
MATERIALITY OF SPACE:
AN EXPERIENTIAL EXPLORATION

In this group project, we selected Levain Bakery Store as our research target. By site visiting the store, we experienced the atmosphere and mood created within the italian style bakery shop and also tried to discover the materials and finishes used in the store. After an exploration, we understand the common materials, which are used in local construction industry and its basic properties and installation as well. Nevertheless, we understand that how do the choices of materials influence the design of building and also the considerations of the architect when he/she was choosing the materials.

PROJECT 2
INTERGRATION: MATERIAL SPECIFICATION

In this intergration project with design studio 1, I have learnt the way to chose the most suitable building materials to apply in the space design. By considering the feeling and the atmosphere of the space, materiality plays a vital role to inform human 5 senses. Meanwhile, I also gained the knowledge about the effects of building materials on occupancy, aesthetics, spatial quality as well as the structural quality of the building design. It was quite interesting for me to have the chance to do further exploration on building materials and included my understandings on materials into my own space design. That was fun.

PROJECT 1a
MY HOME, MY SPACE

In this project, I learnt how to identify the basic building materials, furnishings and finishings in our daily living space. At the same time, I realised that different types of building materials have different properties and applications. Also, I discoverd that chosing a material is not that simple as you pick a beautiful tile you like and then use it, it also considers many factors. For example, the cost, the suitability, the installation of the materials and the durability as well.

STUDY TRIP
PENANG SITE-VISIT

(2/5/2013-4/5/2013)

It was an exciting and unforgetable trip to Penang. In the trip, we visited marble factory in Ipoh to better undersand the types of marbles and the making process. Besides, we also visited some historical and significant heritages in Penang like Cheong Fatt Tze mansion and Teochew Temple to discover the usage of materials and also some simple building structures. In the last day of our study trip, we also did an exploration in the Penang historical streets and experience the fun of on-site sketching. As a conclusion, It was a trip combining learning and fun and I am looking forward for our next journey :)
