PROJECT 1
GREEN INFO-SHELTER
EXPLORING THE ENVIRONMENT POETICS

Sustainable Community and Environment
SITE SENSITIVITY AND CONTEXTUAL DESIGN
This project was an introductory exercise for us to design with sustainable thinkings and considerations. A site located at the main entrance of campus was given, we were assigned to design a shelter for passengers to wait for their ride while it also funtions as an advertisment structure to introduce and promote the art and design activities that happen in CoDA Gallery as well as in campus. During the design process, intensive site analysis was carried out to design better with the clear understanding of site conditions. Thus, the goal of this project is to design wise in order to response to the site as well as creating a sustainable environment and community with the insertion of the structure.
With the completion of this exercise, the understanding of contextual design was developed. It is important to analyze and identify the contextual needs of a site as well as its environment qualities that could be a part of our design strength. Besides, implementations of sustainable design strategies that we have been introduced was also the fundamental learning outcome of this project.

PROJECT 2
NATURE APPRECIATION CENTRE
COMPLEXITY . SUSTAINABILITY . FUNCTIONALITY
The project introduced to design a Nature Appreciation Centre to develope the awareness of environmental sustainability in architecture design and practice. Throughout the design process of this public building, we were encouraged to look for different design solutions in various methodology to overcome design problems such as site topography, vegetations, socio-cultural influences as well as existing structures. Besides, the project also aimed to reduce environmental impacts towards the site and strike a balance between environments, economic and social, thus forming a sustanable contextual design.
Throughout the design process, different design solutions were explored and investigated to chose the best for the NAC design. Moreover, clustered spatial typology were employed with various passive design approaches to design better. In addition, this project also allowed us to learn how to design architectural spaces with consideration of environmental poetics in relation to the basic natural context which impact on users' experiences.

DESIGN APPROACH
Prelude. Something exciting is waiting for you.
The term ‘Prelude’ is defined as an introduction to something more important and meaningful. With this key term, the centre is perceived as an introductory space for the Belum Rainforest as the location of the nature appreciation centre is on a site where there is much distant from the rainforest itself with no significant characteristics of a tropical rainforest, for instance, the surrouding context. Nevertheless, the centre is designed to engage visitors by offering a series of programs that triggle their excitement before they depart for their adventurous journey into the rainforest reserve.
Thus, the appreciation of nature is created by interaction, involvement and engagement. True nature is beyond the site. The design of the centre is trying to frame the limited features on site to tell people the beauty of nature. Hence, the building was built with the intention of giving a brand new perception to visitors, which nature could be different and beyond our imagination. In fact, the unique structure is derived from the native’s dwellings element that found deep in the forest, which it is reinterpreted and reflected on the exterior built form of the centre.
