ISLAMIC ARCHITECTURE CHRONOLOGY // 7 PRINCIPLES

The objective of this project was developing the understanding of Islamic architecture through historical study of particular region in Malaysia as well as documentations of the research outcome. By implementing the knowledge and personal interpretation of 7 principles of Islamic architecture, we were assigned to take a Islamic building in the timeline to do a in depth building analysis in Islamic architecture perspective. This was to analyze and discuss the relationship of 7 principles and Islamic religion dogmas of faith with social, cultural, environmental and intellectual context of Islamic architecture throughout prominent Islamic period.

PRACTICALITY OF PRINCIPLES AND BELIEF

In the second project, we were assigned to select a local Islamic building to conduct a precedent study on how does the principles being applied into real life building to create the spiritual feeling of space. This was to encourage our critical understanding of archietcture with relationship to spiritual and religious philosophy, principles, teachings and value encouter through an exploration of literature and fieldwork survey relating to Islamic architecture. Besides, it was also to develop our awareness of philosophical aspects of Islamic architecture.

Through literature review and site visit, we had to explain the spiritual and religious aspects of Islamic architecture and conclude it with table of research, interview records as well as personal analysis. At the same time, the understandings of the sense of place through patrons' spiritual in Islamic building was developed with the ability of describing Islamic architecture languages and its design element and principles.
